Who and what is the SBA?

“The U.S. Small Business Administration (SBA) is an independent Agency of the Executive Branch of the Federal Government. It is charged with the responsibility of providing four primary areas of assistance to American Small Business. These are: Advocacy, Management, Procurement, and Financial Assistance. Financial Assistance is delivered primarily through SBA’s Investment programs, Business Loan Programs (through Lenders, Community Development Organizations, and Microlending Institutions), Disaster Loan Programs, and Bonding for Contractors.” (www.sba.gov)

What is considered a small business?

Over 90% of the nation's companies are classified as "small" by the SBA size standards, with limitations on dollar volume and number of employees set according to industry. Almost every type of business qualifies for a SBA Guaranteed Loan. The following is an excerpt from the guidelines published by the US. Small Business Administration listing the maximums:

Manufacturing: Maximum number of employees may range from 500 to 1,000 depending on which industry the business is in.

Wholesale: Number of employees must not exceed 100.

Services: Annual sales must not exceed $6 to $18 Million depending on the industry.

Retailing: Annual sales must not exceed $6 to $20 Million depending on the industry.

There are many myths and much misunderstanding about SBA loans that we can help the small business owner with, for example:

- It takes 6 to 9 months to get funded. (Processing time can take as little as 15 days. Loan funding within 30 days.)

- Dealing with the Federal Government means too much red tape, too many strings attached. (Applying for a SBA loan requires the same documentation as a regular commercial or real estate loan, we lay out all fees and costs up front.)

- You have to belong to an ethnic minority to get a SBA loan. (You do not have to be a minority to get a SBA loan.)

- You must be turned down by two banks prior to applying for a SBA loan. (You do not have to be turned down by a lender to get a SBA loan.)

- If you get a SBA loan, the government will try and tell you how to run my business. (Not true, as a Preferred Lender you will only be dealing with our bank.)
